Join us as a volunteer
Our volunteers are part of a diverse team of volunteers, students, self-employed guides and permanent staff. Together, we ensure a warm visitor experience and keep the museum running smoothly.
You will start before the museum opens in December, which will give you the chance to get to know the museum and how it works from the inside. Your experiences, feedback and ideas are valuable and will help us to further develop the museum and our volunteer programme.
What will you be doing?
As a volunteer, you may be asked to carry out various tasks:
Assisting at the reception desk
- You offer visitors a warm welcome.
- You help visitors find their way around and provide practical information.
- You give visitors a brief introduction to the museum.
- You are attentive to accessibility and inclusion.
- You encourage visitors to buy tickets online.
Host in the exhibition galleries
- You answer visitors’ questions and share brief insights about the exhibition.
- You put visitors at ease, particularly when dealing with sensitive topics or objects.
- You observe and give feedback.
- You manage visitor flows.
- You supervise the galleries.
All-round support
- You offer flexible assistance where needed: covering breaks, helping out at busy times etc.

- You are interested in heritage, history, care or science.

- You like to contribute ideas and take the initiative.
- You are available for at least one half-day shift (4 - 5 hours) per week.

- Recruitment
We will be recruiting volunteers in August and September. The training and trial sessions with visitors be held in September, October and November 2026. - When can you start?

The Vesalius Museum is located at Minderbroedersstraat 12 on the Hertogensite in the centre of Leuven. - When does the museum open?
The museum officially opens its doors to the public on 12 and 13 December 2026 with a festive weekend. - When will you be working?
At least one half day of 4 or 5 hours per week during the museum’s opening hours.
The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 until 17:00. It is also open one evening a month.
