Join us as a student

The students who work for us are part of the museum’s reception team and an important point of contact for visitors.

You will welcome and assist visitors at reception and in the museum shop. Along with around twenty other students, you will help create a warm and welcoming experience for our visitors.

You will also have the opportunity to discover the inner workings of a new museum from behind the scenes.

What will you be doing?

  • You will welcome visitors and provide information about the museum.  
  • You will answer emails and phone calls in Dutch, English and, if needed, French.
  • You will scan and check tickets.
  • You will handle ticket sales and reservations at reception.  
  • You will help in the museum shop.  

In addition, you may also choose to take on extra responsibilities:

  • Helping at events with reception, registration or managing the cloakroom. 
  • Are you interested in working as a guide? Let us know, we organise a separate training programme for guides.  

Who are we looking for?

  • You are a student at KU Leuven or one of the association partners: LUCA School of Arts, UCLL, Odisee, Thomas More, or VIVES.   
  • You are customer-friendly, communicative and helpful.
  • You work independently and take responsibility.  
  • You are flexible and can switch easily between different tasks.
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch and English. Knowledge of French and/or German is an asset.
  • You are interested in science, healthcare, heritage or museums.  

What do we expect?

  • Ideally, you will commit for the full 2026-2027 academic year or longer. 
  • You are available for at least one half day (4 to 5 hours) per week.
  • You are regularly available at weekends and on public holidays.
  • You are also available for at least one half day per week during exam periods.
  • Taking on a greater commitment is possible and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

  • Please be sure to mention your degree course, your availability (weekdays, weekends and exam periods) and whether you are interested in working as a guide.  

Suitable candidates will be invited for an introductory interview from August 2026 onwards. 

When can you start?  

  • You can discuss this with the Volunteer, Guide and Student Coordinator.
  • We are also organising several trial sessions with visitors in September, October, and November 2026. 
  • Where will you be working? 
    The Vesalius Museum is located at Minderbroedersstraat 12 on the Hertogensite in the centre of Leuven. 
     
  • When does the museum open? 
    The museum officially opens its doors to the public on 12 and 13 December 2026 with a weekend of celebrations. 
     
  • When will you be working? 
    The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10.00 to 17.00. It is also open one evening a month.
